It all started in 2023 with us, future founders, moving to the vibrant Mother City, Cape Town. As big fans of edible products, we used them much back in our days in the US for stress relief, relaxation, or simply good times with friends, we were well-versed in the variety and quality available.

Yet, once in South Africa, we found the local products noticeably lacking, particularly in terms of flavour and effects. While you can delve into our full story here, we feel it's important to shed light on several issues within the local edibles industry, issues that not only we noticed but were also echoed by many industry insiders and regular consumers alike, leading to our next topic.

Buying Edibles in South Africa – What You Need to Know.

1. A Quest For Quality.

Fast forward to 2024, and unfortunately, the edible scene here is still figuring things out. There are only a few brands that really get it right when it comes to production, packaging, and, most importantly, the infusion process. You'll often come across products with big numbers on the packaging, but these can be misleading. Let's dive a bit deeper into that.

2. Potency Levels – What's on the Label vs. What's in the Product.

A crucial aspect often overlooked in edible products is the actual potency content, which can significantly vary from what's indicated on the package. To cut production costs, some brands may not utilize certified laboratories for testing the flower, oil, or extract used in their infusions. As a result, the concentration in these products can fluctuate wildly between batches. For instance, a 10mg dosage from one brand might send you into a deep, couch-locked state, while the same dosage from another might have minimal impact. This inconsistency is a major concern, as it can lead to unintentional overdosing, a risk consumers should be aware of.

3. Check Ingredients Carefully.
